When I was thinking about starting this blog, I explained to a friend of mine who knows all about music (and even more about economic justice) what I was trying to write about — that spot where power, politics and money intersect, and how they affect our communities.
I wanted to write about who’s sailing the ship. And which decks most of us are working on. And where that ship is headed unless most of us in steerage get together and raise our voices.
Then I told him I wanted to name it The Dice Are Loaded.
I just told him that much, without explaining, to see if he’d get it.
He said yeah, yeah, the Leonard Cohen song. Then he said no, don’t call it that, it’s too obscure and too … well … loaded.
Still, I have to say that tonight, having spent almost an hour sifting through the latest installment of As the Military World Turns, I’m thinking that maybe Mr. Cohen really is the most succinct economist that Canada has yet produced.
